Joe Pye Weed (2019-08-18 12-01-51_03)

18 Aug 2019

Chicago, Illinois (Edgewater neighborhood)

Nikon Coolpix P7700

The plant was growing in a neighbor’s garden in his front yard.

Joe Pye Weed – Order Asterales : Family Asteraceae (Sunflowers) : Tribe Eupatorieae :  Genus Eutrochium

The plant does not get its name from a person but the Native Americans called it jopi. It is native to the USA and Canada.

Editing was done with On1 Photo RAW 2020. In Develop mode I increased contrast, midtones, shadows and structure and decreased highlights, whites and blacks. Under Color I increased the vibrance a bit. I used the ‘Landscape – Forest’ preset in the ‘Starting Points’ category and added the Sharpening (Find Amazing Detail) filter.

  • Although Joe Pye Weed is considered to be a wildflower, the plant I photographed was in a neighbor’s garden. If you have a garden, do you grow plants in it that are native to your area?

    • Yes
    • No

  1. I have several of them in my garden and they grow as weeds but we have not uprooted them. The flowers here are white in colour. Thanks for the name.
