Locally we call it ‘targula’ Ice apples grow on palmyra palms. They are encased in round black fruits. The climber knows when to harvest them. Only tender fruits are fit for eating.
The top of the fruits is chopped off carefully and inside there will be three ice apples. They are gently scooped out These ice apples have a thin yellow skin that some eat. Mostly they are removed and then you see the ice apples as shown in the photo.
Ice apples are available here throughout the year. The hawker will do all that is needed but sometimes we get the black fruit home only after the top is chopped.

I see them in Asian stores. Can you cook them as a dessert? I had a look on Google how the whole fruit and tree look like. Amazing fruit!
I was to post a link but I am glad you searched. No, it is not cooked.
I don’t think I have tried ice apples before but they do look interesting
They need to be eaten the moment they are removed from the fruit.
I hear about the Ice Apple for the first time. Thanks.
They grow on palmyra palms. You may not have those palms where you live.
I had never heard about these before.
They are a palm fruit and you should have those palms where you live.
