I love the Canary Islands for the simplicity of logistics. It’s impossible to get lost, it is close to driving to any point or close to returning if you want. In that sense, you can ride differently, on the country roads and still be not far from home.
The most convenient is Gran Canaria. The highway covers almost the entire island from anywhere you live, but you can get lost in the mountains if you wish. Tenerife and Fuerte – a bit worse, but everything is within reach. Lanzarote seems to be no exception.
I remembered “impossible to get lost” for our first time in Crete. When renting a car I definitely asked for GPS. Hotel staff booked a car, car rental brought the car and we refused because there was no GPS. Then we went out to auto search by ourselves.
And we found. A Finn or an Estonian, sitting in a car rent room, answered with a sincere laugh to my question if we get GPS. “Why you need GPS here, you will not get lost here, it is the island after all.”
And then I felt so ashamed that since then, I use GPS while traveling only for direction like a compass. Even if a point is entered, it is indicative, but by no means definitive. Travel as if you were on a small island where it is impossible to get lost and discover what tourists usually do not see.

I really like Gran Canaria and Tenerife. I crossed the island of Tenerife but it was with a bus
I have never used GPS. Road maps always get me to where I want to go!
I used road maps in the past, and it took time to change them to GPS. Our habits have strong roots.
My wife usually drives while I navigate, using the road atlas. This makes it easier to do things like choosing more interesting routes, or ones avoiding nasty right-hand turns for example!
I do use GPS when traveling.
And it is a big help, especially in unknown places.
