Discover Romania through my photos – Vidraru Dam on the Argeș River.

It is said that Romania is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and this can be confirmed by all those foreign tourists who annually cross the threshold of this country to know their wonders. I don’t know if this is true, because I didn’t visit too many foreign countries to make the comparison. That is why, I invite you to discover some of the beauties of Romania, as I have seen and surprised them in the photos and to draw your own conclusion.

Vidraru Lake and Dam is located along Transfagarasan, 40 km from Curtea de Argeș. It is the meeting place of the river  Arges, Capra, Buda and several direct tributaries River Doamnei, Cernatul, Topologul. It was built between 1960 and 1966, for hydroelectricity product. Vidraru Dam  has 465 million m3 of water,  a length of 10.3 km  and a width of 2.2 km , accumulating a total area of 870 hectares   and maximum depth of 155 m Its circumferences is about 28 km.The construction of the dam rests on the slopes of Plesa and Vidraru mountains, and, in the year of its entry into operation, it was the 15th arc dam and the 27th in height (166 m) in Europe.( Source)

The view that opens immediately as you enter through the tunnel that leads to the dam is so spectacular that almost everyone stops, unconditionally, to take a picture with the lake and the dam. The mountains rise almost vertically from one side to the other and the lake seems motionless, somewhere below.
