As much as we attempt to be logical, practical and rational thinking, we must allow for and recognize the fact that cognitive bias exists.
There are at least ten cognitive biases that have been clearly identified and named. It is as if everyone is looking at the same situation with different lenses. It not something that you often stop and think about. Let’s take a look at one of these biases.
The Self Serving Bias
It is common for people to take credit for success and blame other reasons for failures. In fact, it may be almost what we call “human nature”. This bias helps us to protect self esteem. When it is is kept in reasonable check it is almost harmless. If we are willing to look at it and name it what it is as bias, we have learned a great deal.
