The water hyacinth is one of the most beautiful plants I have seen. The leaves are shiny dark green hearts and the flowers are shades of purple with sprays of yellow on them.
As beautiful as they are, the water hyacinths are a terrible menace. They are weeds that grow in water bodies. They grow and multiply very fast. The fill our lakes and ponds in no time and quickly choke them of life. The water dries up as these plants spread themselves.
Cleaning lakes and ponds is not only time consuming but also expensive. I used to feel bad as a child to see these beauties being pulled out and thrown away. But now I understand that beauty isn’t always very good.
I still love these flowers and I still grow them in a small tub. 😀 one I saved from the lake cleaning drive!!
