Advice of a Colleague

Here is your leap.

A colleague of mine suggested, rather strongly, that I needed to take a  more fair and balanced approach to my political views and interpretation of the media. It included a list of websites that I should visit and understand. I believe it is important to be open to suggestions and learn what I can.

The first site he sent me to was NeverTrump.org. I went to see what it was all about and in order to get any information you had to sign a pledge that you would never vote for Trump. Well, I did not vote for Trump, but I have no idea what my choices are in the future, so that seems a really bad decision. I want all my options open. So I couldn’t learn anything about the group, I could however donate money. I declined.

The second site he sent me to was “itsgoingdown.org”.  The whole site is to be intended for those who wanted to start their own antifa group. I have no intention of starting a group and I found many of their suggestions alarming.

“Track white nationalist, Far Right, and fascist activity. Your group will be expected to document fascist groups and organizing in your area. This means gathering information on who is doing what, and knowing the makeup and key players of the various groups that are active.Once information is verified, antifa groups periodically release this information in a publicly available format. It is also crucial to alert any intended targets about specific threats you find while doing research.”  This seems extreme.

“Build a culture of non-cooperation with law enforcement. If you have any intention of working with the police, FBI, or other agencies; or if you publically condemn anti-fascists who break the law: don’t call yourself an anti-fascist. The cops will be Trump supporters; do not collaborate with them.” I don’t think this is healthy. The police should not be considered the enemy.

The more I read the more I feel like I am in a civil war with no civility at all.
