A large number of mostly wealthy actors, actresses, singers, and other performers seem to be focused on having an enormous impact on politics. They state opinions as if they were facts and disregard the actual facts, thinking that people will believe exactly what the performer believes, simply because they told people to believe that way. Often, they attack one politician or another without any actual truth to back up their claims. At times, they do little but repeat the same talking points that one political party or the other makes, without adding anything that is substantive and without actually trying to look to see if what they are saying is true. Very frequently, they make claims that are demonstrably false, in an attempt to sway voters.
For the actors, et. al, it is a no-lose situation. They feel that they hold sway over people and that if they are controversial, that simply brings more people to see their movies or TV programs or what-have-you. Some have even gone so far as to indicate that they think that the public and citizens aren’t able to think for themselves, so it is easy to get people to believe things that aren’t true.
