Biggest pigeon in the world. They are protected and are illegal to eat or kill.
Maoris used to hunt and eat them. Some still do illegally.
They are a lovely bird and I saw 4 in an Auckland street once. They are special birds.They deserve to be protected.

A little different sound Elenka, but you can usually tell by the wings beating, like a bellows.
