Wander project Earth Day 2018 remember the ground beneath your feet!

I am continuing my Earth Day 2018 celebration with my second outdoor post! More water covers Earth than land (70% of the Earth’s Surface is water). Thirty years ago or perhaps more if you had gone to the Chesapeake Bay it was much more polluted then than it is now. The Maryland Blue Crabs (since much of the Bay lies between Maryland and Virginia, is it a Virginia Blue Crab when it crosses the underwater state line>?) were in decline and fishing in the Bay was way down.

The Oysters found in the mud along the shores were also in decline. First off there was an economic impact, caused by the decline. The Oysterman (that is what they were called for many years) began to decline, first from the easier mechanical process of harvesting the Oysters and also from the declining population. The slow return of both industries has created many fewer jobs than were there before, but there are some jobs there again.

Dolphins, which have not been far into the Chesapeake Bay in many years, were scened all the way to the near Northernmost point of the Bay last year (The Bay Bridge). The return of mother nature, this times she is staying around! There are sadly many places yet to clean. Many places that are not places we can go and walk around enjoying Mother Nature’s artistic talent. Those that can be, have to be examples for those that are not today. Earth Day 2018, remember the gorund under your feet!
