This is the Maritime Festival in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. This is the 20th Maritime Festival in the town and is usually held in the 1st or 2nd weekend of September. The weekend festival has Shanty Singers, like this one I took a video of. Also there are boats and ships to go on, crafts and information about the local fishing industry. There’s usually lots of tents and marquee’s people can go in to explore the Maritime Festival and enjoy the food and entertainment.
It’s usually a very busy weekend. A couple of years back we had rain one day of the event, which was a shame, as that can affect attendance. But this year has been better. There was rain showers on the Saturday, but Sunday was lovely and dry, sunny and warm. Of course next year will be the special 21 years of the Maritime Festival, so no doubt they will do something special. I’m looking forward to it already!
A very interesting festival
Thankyou Halcome. It’s been running for a number of years now.
I know what made Britain great, but what makes Yarmouth great?
Oh there’s lots that make Yarmouth great. The history of the town and the wall that surrounds the town, the fishing industry, and the fact that there is still lots of holiday makers come here every summer. It’s a nice town.
nice, sure but great?
I don’t know about Maritime Festival, but it sounds so fun! It’s good that you enjoyed it. I think the next one will really be BIG event. 🙂
I would hope so, Kaka. 21 years is certainly a special number for any event I think.
