Tavern “?” Is the oldest in Belgrade.First, it was a house built by an unknown Greek architect for  Serbian diplomat in 1823.Prince Milos later donated to his doctor.He later rearranged a house in a tavern that is still located across the street from the St. Michael’s Cathedral.

The name he was supposed to get was “At St. Michael’s Cathedral ,,, due to its location.But it came to the opposition of the Church authorities.Because of this, the owner temporarily put “?” As a name, however, this “name” has gained great popularity and has continued to date.

The first billiard in 1834 could be played there, and in the same year it became the first reading room of the Serbian Newspapers.From respect to St. Michael’s Cathedral, this tavern was for some time the only one in which smoking was not allowed.Prince Miloš personally forbade smoking in front of the tavern.The tobacco was not suitable for a place that was close to the church and the center of culture and family gatherings.

After the Second World War, the cafeteria became a favorite place for students and professors of the Academy of Applied Arts…Sometimes they passed exams there.

In 1959, tavern became socially owned and it was allocated to the city of Belgrade.The tradition of the tavern is maintained through food and drinks that were once prepared and served in the city of Belgrade.

People who come from the Balkans, Macedonians, Croats, Slovenes and many others manage to recognize the spirit and emotions that  this buildingn carries.Russians who come often do not want to leave the tavern.Foreign guests enjoy the most in brandy and kebabs. In this way, you feel the spirit of our kitchen. This tavern is the only one in the city that offers coffee to an old custom, with a ratluk(Turkish delight).

Fights and physical conflicts in the tavern have never been and are valid for one of the most respected in the capital. Belgraders, but also tourists can enjoy good food and old-fashioned music on a daily basis.

  1. What a beautiful and beautiful place! As I would like to visit it just to sit down to rest a good time and have a cup of coffee from there that is served.

  2. It’s a famous tavern in my city. I’m relieved. I think they changed her name although I’m not 100% sure. I’ll have to take a little to Paris Street.
