Saarburg waterfall

I arrived in Saarburg in the Spring at the end of April few years ago. Saarburg is a small town in the west of Gemania, surrounded by forests and vineyards. I was going to spend more time here. I had time to discover the beauties of this small town. One of them, was the waterfall.

One day, Maya and I went to look for the waterfall. I knew it was in the middle of the historic city center, in an area called Little Venice, but I did not know how to get there. I knew it is located on the stream Leuk, which runs quietly through the historic center of Saarburg on its way to the Saar River. The easiest way to get there was to follow the reverse path that the Leuk follows. I found the place where Leuk meets the Saar river and  then was easy to find the waterfall.

I stepped on this narrow street

On the left is river Saar. As usual, Maya was curious to see what lay beyond this entrance.

We came to a point where I saw the waterfall

Save

A small bridge allows viewing the waterfall

Part of the falling water is led over heritage water wheels, probably coupled to electric generators.

On both sides of the waterfall are many shops and restaurants . Many places to sit with friends and enjoy the area.

The waterfall of Saarburg is a must-see if you are in the area.

  1. Splendid area. Enchanting and picturesque. Some artist could make a great painting whether in oil or acrylic or watercolor of that area. But I have one stupid question: what happens in winter? If you know the answer, I would appreciate reading it.
