Dragoman marsh.
It is a karst marsh in the western part of the Sofia valley, 1.5 km east of the town of Dragoman and 38 km away from Sofia.
It is located in a vast valley, surrounded by limestone hills, at the southern foot of the Chepun karst mountain.
It spreads over an area of about 350 hectares and is approximately 2.5 km from the west to the east and 1.2 km from the north to the south.
The Dragoman marsh was drained in the 30s of the 20th century. Then drainage channels were built and then a pumping station to use the land for agricultural purposes.
For a long time, life in it dies.
With this, two species of plant species disappear, of which it was the only locality in Bulgaria and one of the last fields of the gray crane before it disappeared as a breeding species in Bulgaria.
As a result of stopping the pumping of waters in the 90s, the swamp is rapidly recovering and is one of the few restored wetlands in Bulgaria.
Such a beautiful journey you took us on!
Judging from your photos, I think I’d enjoy taking my camera there.
