I was mainly absent yesterday but my time was fully spent in other activities..
This is Mission Bay Fountain by Auckland’s waterfront by the Waitemata Harbour. (pronounced Why – ee- tay – mah-tah).
Reverend Samuel Marsden came and preached here in the early days and he was known as “the whipping priest”, I guess he was thinking he was doing good by whipping people out of anger, but in my experience whipping people does not bring about the best qualities.
However in the case of 2 small boys running across a busy street with cars about, better to have 2 sucked bums than 2 dead boys! I guess sometimes a quick smack may save their life.
Beating or whipping people is the easiest way to judge and punish, and certainly can be done by anyone, but a wise person will certainly do things differently for an effective impact.
Totally agree with you…but I remember it was the time when they had a different mentality.
Jesus put love first in his teachings, and it never changes, strangely we always translate that love as we like…
So true Albert , hopefully people may try and learn that kindness achieves a lot more than vinegar!
I doubt that the “whip” the right solution.
So true I agree with you Vidocka,..
The fountain is very beautiful, my dear friend
Thanks Lado, glad you like the fountain.
There is a huge argument between parenting experts on the impact of spanking children. The end result is that it teaches them might is right. That is not a good lesson regardless of what the child has done.
Well, you are right Doc, it is supposed to teach you right and wrong, but as it seems it just becomes as you say,,,and it doesn’t teach true right from wrong.
Samuel Marsden was a whipping priest from the old school long before our time.
It truly only teaches the child that might makes right.
sad.
Yes you are right Doc, and that might is not right is what I have learned…
might, or bullying in any form is just wrong.
Abusing someone online. Abusing someone in person. It is just wrong.
Yes, I totally agree with you Doc
Very funny particularly your last sentence. They say you spare the rod but you spoil the child
Thanks Grace, glad you think it’s funny….
