The Oakley Rodeo has been a big part of the small town of Oakley Utah ( roughly 1,470 in the area.) This year everything about the rodeo is different. You have to buy at least 30 tickets and hope that one of the thirty you purchased will get you one seat at the rodeo. You get no money back and it is what it is this year.
The parade will be different. They are encouraging people to decorate their yards so people have something to see as they drive through town. No one will be tossing candy. There will be no real parade going by. No horses, no rodeo queens, and no clowns to make the parade festive.
And to top it all off, some group has got a permit to come and protest animal cruelty. I am thinking a bunch of legal gun holding cowboys and cowgirls aren’t looking forward to hearing people yelling at them and shaking signs. (I wonder if they will be required to wear masks like everyone or if they can just tell the bad guys aren’t wearing masks.)
Clearly we have decided that July 4th we will stay home with the gates locked and the guns loaded sitting on the porch drinking lemonade. It seems the sensible thing to do.
So this is my weekly post. I will return to comment. I will keep writing but only one weekly here at Virily. I think that makes common sense. Many said I wrote too much anyway.
Stop listening to the haters. They say that you write too much because they do not choose to write as many creative posts as you do. Most of the people on this site do not like sports and do not want me to write about Monsanto. That let me know that the nerve has been hit, so I keep hitting that nerve. Everyone is not going to agree with you no matter how much you appease them. You cannot please everybody.
well this 4th July you can have a ghostly rodeo
It might be just that. Actually, I think I will head to the horse races instead.
well I am going to say it, I don’t think you write too much and I am going to miss your posts!
The time of normal seems to be gone now. They keep calling now the new normal, but it hasn’t gotten set yet that in fact it is normal.
I appreciate that Doc. I got much feedback that I write too much, so I am going to slow it down and just comment for awhile and see if that makes others happy. I don’t like being part of the problem. I would much rather be part of the solution.
your posts are part of my solution I am so sorry anyone said that to you.
It wasn’t meant to be mean, at least I am not taking it that way. Maybe this new project will be even better who knows?
OK as long as you are Ok with it I will stop complaining!
The new project is fun that is for sure!
the good news is it is only two days until Caption Thuirsday!!!
Sounds like an interesting rodeo, I think staying home on July 4 is the sensible thing to do,
I loved the rodeo when it was normal, but all this is far from normal. A lottery for tickets is just a money grab.
Many things are changing this year, but we have to find ways to cheer ourselves. I like the yard decorating idea.
I will have my friend who live there take pictures. I don’t want to anywhere near a protest.
You are the lucky recipient of random comment number 6. Knowing this information may help you win a prize.
I think it’s a smart decision to stay home. I don’t think it’s worth challenging fate.
I agree. We live there because there is not much that happens and we like it that way!
Love this part… Clearly we have decided that July 4th we will stay home with the gates locked and the guns loaded sitting on the porch drinking lemonade. It seems the sensible thing to do.
Same here!
We moved a couple rocking chairs onto the porch. It seems like a plan.
That is a great way to start. Love rocking on the porch.
Have you ever seen the movie Second Hand Lions? I think our porch sitting may be something like that.
