Koi fish are in high demand for ponds and water features around the world. These large and brightly colored fish are decorative but have been around for hundreds of years. They are descendants of the carp fish and were originally farmed for food in the rice fields of China in the 1600s and later in Japan. By the 1800s they were bred for decorative purposes due to their unusual color patterns. They can live up to 20 years if they are properly cared for.
This photo was taken of koi fish enjoying the clear, crisp water in a pond at a nature conservatory. Posted for Themes of the month challenge – Wet – November
