Does it behave like Northern Hemisphere gannets – diving from a height with folded wings and then emerging up to half a minute later?
Yes, it does I believe they are the same type of birds, we have several Gannet colonies in New Zealand. thanks Indexer

This is a Gannet, they catch fish and often live in various Gannet Colonies, in Muriwai beach West Auckland
