This is a North Island Robin, that lives on Tiritiri Matangi Island in Auckland’s Hauraki gulf.
Yes, the species of bird is an endangered species, which is why it lives in a bird sanctuary. Here the birds sometimes follow you around and they often sit on the ground in front of you. They are a special bird.
Cats would easily get this bird, it wouldn’t have a chance against cats. I love cats, I don’t like them killing birds. Its nature. So cats can’t come to this island.
It’s great some people get together and try to help these small birds in New Zealand.
Glad this bird is protected.
Thanks so much Carol, it’s a lovely bird and follows you around as well. Too vulnerable for predators. Needs protection
I read, somewhere that when they are well fed again they love to hunt – cats.Very cute little bird
Thanks so much Elenka, this bird is very special
Such a cute little bird! I’m like you, I love cats, but I don’t like it when they kill other animals. Especially domestic cats, since they are being fed anyway.
Their nature, unfortunately is to kill smaller animals or birds
Thanks Ellie for your kind comments
Nice post! Nice picture!
Thanks Georgi, glad you like it.
