In New Zealand we don’t have Nuclear Power plants, neither do we wish to go down that road. Yes, we still have coal power plants, such as this one in Huntly. 

If you want effective replacements to that which pollutes, first create alternative work for the same people employed by the former power plant by creating a natural power plant.

We rely on Hydro electric power and are spreading out to other power sources, there has also been thermal electric power , natural gas and wind power. Some private people have solar tiles to add to their power supply.

I only have photos of 2 sources. There is talk of putting in a type of power supply to catch the power of the tide of the Kaipara Harbour, the largest and swiftest tides in New Zealand. It’s being discussed. 

#1 Kiropiro Dam

That is what a hydro electric dam looks like. It follows the Waikato river, and the turbines that capture the energy are under the falls you see.

#2 Manawhatu Wind Farm

On the way to Manawhatu Gorge. There is a wind farm on the hills. 

The road through Manawhatu Gorge is now closed and an alternative route to Palmerston North is there instead. 

There were one too many rock falls on Manawhatu Gorge but I have driven through Manawhatu Gorge and I have photos...that will come in another post.

    • Yes, there is Wairaka Geothermal energy and that is operational. The main geyser areas are Rotorua, to Taupo and some places near Tongario national park.

      White Island off the East Coast is an active volcano and although they have some tourists fly over it or have walks. It quite often erupts and is not really a safe place for anyone.

      • I wish we’d do more with geothermal. Bush43 had his home in Texas retrofitted so that it uses geothermal. I would imagine the initial investment is rather steep but it has to be pretty cheap once you get it running.

        Yeah, I don’t think I’d want to live near an active volcano. Doesn’t sound like fun.

  4. I agree that natural resources should be used rationally. I’m not sure if there is a nuclear power plant in Spain. In my homeland, Bulgarians have and I do not like it, but politicians do not want to be closed down.

  5. In our country, unfortunately we have 1 nuclear power plant that they say are higher costs if they close it than it does … because a small country produces almost half of the electricity

      • We use electricity produced by a nuclear power plant…we have ideal conditions for wind power plants, but the environment keepers upset that it’s toposeg in nature … you do not know who’s more clever … everyone has their own bills
