Hunua Falls After the Flood

There was some flooding in the North Island of New Zealand in late March 2017. Hunua Falls was spectacular and also did some very noticeable damage.

So here are some photos showing what we saw when it allowed to go and look. Some areas were not accessible until the flood waters receded.

#1 Hunua Falls from the park

Some of the foot path was torn up by the floods.

These falls were just a trickle before this, but now it's full blown. The water was flowing swifter and faster than it's usual slow pace. Now you could hear hear the roar.

Focus on top of the falls. The walkways around it were cautioned off and no one was allowed on some of these walkways.

If you look closely the foliage was flattened by the floods on the right on the other side of the water.

You may see something of the damage done and get an indication of the speed of the current in the river.

The river did not go quite this far as it was on higher ground.

The Silver Fern is a New Zealand emblem.

A chance shot, but this time the fantail did not stay long.
