When I got on Virily this morning something had changed. I sat for a moment and tried to figure out what had changed. I realized after a ten minute session of simply staring at the screen, what had changed was me. This was the beginning of my wonder.
#1 Had a Quick Reality Check
I don't know what is happening in the hospital with my brothers stepson. I have not called to check. I am not even certain what questions to ask. How did I let that slip my mind? Did I assume that someone else would do it? I really don't believe that will happen. I think that falls on my shoulders.
Here's where I need to stop and get to the task at hand. Someone must call.
#2 What started it all!
So what started this wander! Someone had a bad day and shared it. I think that is a good and healthy thing to do. Sometimes just saying it aloud or putting it in writing helps. I commented on the post something my Mom often said and then I realized that I didn't know if what she said was even possible. Can anyone have 1000 happy thoughts or moments a day? And I began to wander.
#3 How Many Thoughts Do We Have?
That took me down a long and winding trail. I am going to share a few things that I found. "When we have between 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day, this means between 35 and 48 thoughts per minute per person. The steady flow of thinking is a thick filter between our thoughts and feelings, our head and heart."
#4 Wow! That’s a lot of thoughts!
Of course, I spotted another little trail. I wonder how many of those thoughts are subconscious things that we have personally ingrained in our brains. For example, if you stop and really think about it do you have the same thought everyday when you wake up. Today I realized I do. My thought is "what time is it?" I immediately look at the clock to see the time. There is no reason to do that on a daily basis, I wake up at the same time every day unless someone intentionally interrupts my sleep. I need to replace that with a new thought. Suggestions are welcome.
#5 Then I Stumpled Across This!
"The average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those, 80% are negative and 95% are exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before and about 80% are negative. These studies reveal that the quality of our existence rests on the quality of our internal and external communication."
Your mind needed a break perhaps.
Probably so. But time doesn’t ever seem to stand still.
