House Sparrow (male) (2010-05-08 10-50-53a)
House Sparrow – Order Passeriformes : Family Passeridae : Passer domesticus
The photo was taken at North Pond in Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois.
The House Sparrow is considered to be an Old World Sparrow by ornithologists. They were introduced into the New York area by a professor of English literature who wanted to see all of the birds mention in Shakespeare’s plays living in the USA. He also imported and released the European Starling. Both of them have become pests.
I used a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera with an Olympus TCON-17 tele-extender., an equivalent of a 712 mm lens on a 35 mm camera. I used ACDSee Ultimate 2019 to adjust the lighting, increase the contrast, clarity and sharpness and adjust the levels.

This is very nice shot. I wonder who many I have missed.
Thank you. I’m glad you liked it.
Great shot even though I am not a fan of sparrows.
Thanks. I like sparrows except for these guys. They are an invasive species and they are all over the place. They will go into nest boxes and destroy eggs and kill babies.
That House Sparrow looks very beautiful and extraordinary in your shot.
Thank you very much, Albert. I appreciate it.
Pleasure is mine, Gary.
Super shot. In our land, we have a lot of these birds.
Thank you/ They are very common in my neighborhood also.
Nice shot Gary (ps shared this on Twitter let me know if you pick up readers)!
Thanks, Doc. I appreciate the tweet. I also tweet my stuff so it might be hard to figure out whose tweet generated any hits. What’s your Twitter handle. I’m @gjsibio.
@docandersen actually you can go to your twitter dashboard and see which of your tweets is actually moving the needle.
I didn’t even know the dashboard existed. Thanks for the heads up.
I use it all the time. You get your daily views, average views over 28 days and which “tweets” had the biggest impact.
