Located in Salem Willows Park is Dead Horse Beach. It faces Beverly harbor. This is one of the larger sandy beaches at Salem Willows. There is a story about how Dead Horse Beach got it’s name.
On June 25, 1914, The Great Salem fire destroyed 1,376 buildings and made over 18,000 people homeless. Many of the horses that died fighting the blaze are buried here. Every year used Christmas Trees are taken there and for disposal in a great bonfire.
How sad.
