Creating a Universe – 5

After three months The Project was forgotten by all but the Trustees and those who worked on it.

Most people expected nothing to happen. Just a big waste of money, a few random theories, and some boring papers published in some esoteric journal.

That is not what happened.

The computers discerned the coalescence of matter. The staff were ecstatic, overwhelmed by the magnitude of their success. But it was only a fifteen second fill in on the News, pushed between the more important murders, car crashes and political posturing.

Scientists, who were not part of the project instantly dismissed it as ‘Cold Fusion In A Gym Sock’.

Over the next days, instruments proved some points were hotter than others, meaning they would become ‘stars’.

The protective welder’s glass had been removed. The scientists could stare into the darkness, imagining they could see the forming stars. Within another month, there were tiny points of light in the darkness that were discernible by some, but on the monitors, which carried the view of the microscopes, it seemed a view of the night sky.

Cameras were recording everything, there was a mountain of disks containing the data, special institutions were getting a chance to view them, but no one was allowed in or out, for The Chamber might be unstable, there could be an explosion.

Everyone in the Lab was insured for $1M. Visitors were not.
