Here is the quirky Pukako! Definetly doing what he or she is not supposed to be doing. Ever driven down a one way street in the wrong direction? Often that is the Pukako!
A NZ saying is, “Up the Whoops shooting Pukakos!” That is because Pukakos are swamp hens and don’t live in trees or high up.

This bird is a real suprise for me, it has very interesting habits!!! Found so little information about it in Internet, mostly photos.
It is a very cheeky little bird and has a mind of its own.
If pukako is like a chicken, can he fly high? Is it not like grouse?
A pukako can fly high, but often they choose not to. A Pukako is a swamp hen. NZ version and unique.
