Allium (2012-05-27 12-15-19a)

The photo was taken in a garden in Chicago, Illinois.

Order Asparagales : Family Amaryllidaceae : Subfamily Allioideae : Genus Allium. The genus Allium includes hundreds of different species including onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, leeks and chives. The word comes from the Latin word for garlic, They are monocotyledonous flowering plants. I believe that the flowers here are Allium hollandicum, commonly known as the Persian Onion or the Purple Sensation. It is a common garden plant native to Iran and Kyrgyzstan.

The photo was taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera. I then adjusted the lighting using ACDSee Ultimate 8.1.
