Real Life Story: An Old Lady

In 1999, I was about to have my internship in Manila, Philippines. During that time, my grandfather’s older sister died. Before I travel to complete my internship program, I attended the wake of my grandmother. After three days, I need to go and promise to go back to the burial schedule. However, I wasn’t able to come because the internship program had started and no way I can come back home in time. I had called the family that I cannot make it to the burial day.

During my internship in the hospital, there are some flashes of memories when seeing patients same age with my grandmother. It was like my grandmother wants to say something. I felt bad seeing them in a poor health condition and confined in the hospital. It was a heartbreaking moment because I wasn’t able to attend the burial. I kept on promising and going to visit her tomb as soon as I finished my internship for the month.

I was so pre-occupied during the internship. This internship program will complete my major as Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. If I am not going to focus, I will not able to receive my diploma. I always pray that my grandma will understand why I am doing this.

One of my patients that time looks like my grandmother died. Whenever I treat her, I always give her special care and hoping that she will recover from having “anasarca.” “Anasarca” is described as general body edema.I pour out all my strength to her. After a week, shifting of the interns and regretfully endorsed her to a new Physical Therapy intern.

I had dreamed of her one night on the day of endorsement. She was smiling and able to walk without any assistance. I was so happy seeing her in that state in my dream. On the following day, my co-intern approached me and felt sad. After a few minutes of chatting, I learned that the old woman died. I can not believe it and a bit denial. It was like proving that dream will have the opposite meaning in reality. “Is bad dream means the opposite in reality?”

  1. You have been as a gift for these people to assist them in their life. Its hard to go through but I think you are greatly appreciated. We are really helpless to do anything, but just being there is everything to them.

  2. What an amazing experience. You were seeing your Grandmother through your patients.
I have tried to interpret my dreams for years and cannot, so good luck with that one.
Sounds like you had a divine intervention perhaps.
