Port Townsend Boatyard – Port Townsend, Washington USA
Before I get too far into documenting some of the boats that come and go in the Port Townsend boatyard I thought it might be wise to post a picture of the largest marine lift in use there. This is the 300 ton lift that is used to get the larger boats in and out of the water. This thing is massive as you can see in relation to the cars and buildings. Those wheels are taller than I am. It is pretty fascinating to watch it in action and if you are with a nine year kid or younger it’s better than Disneyland for them.
Hey, there is an idea for a short little movie clip. I’ll get on that pretty soon, … or soonish.
By the way, we need to respect and protect our oceans or die trying. I mean that almost literally.
I’m putting a picture of it with a boat soon. I want to get a little film of it driving and lifting a boat in or out of the water. Before I saw it I never thought about how they did that with big boats.
The boat lift is very impressive………
It is huge and the idea of things weighing hundreds of tons and being able to float is a bit mind boggling. Thanks
Amazing boat lift. Wow, it is massive. I am with you on keeping the ocean clean.
It ‘s funny to think that something weighing hundreds of tons can float. It drives around and is pretty maneuverable .
See ya – keep having a great summer.
respect the ocean is critical!
The boat lift is cool, i love watching them work!
You’re right. I have some stills of this lift and the smaller one cradling boats. We went there with my nephew one day when they were returning a fishing boat to water. He really loved that. Those lift pics are coming.
I might quote you in one of these because you sussed out the boat-out-of-water thing perfectly in your comment the other day.
🙂 I like to take video of them hauling boats out!
If I hang around there enough I may be able to get some advance notice before it happens. The lift gets booked from a little shack with a phone number on it. The operators are probably sitting in the cafe chewing the fat and having coffee. I will certainly try. It would be worth it.
I usually get my boat, because I know when it is being hauled out!
Thank you for the information on this subject.
You’re welcome. Thanks for viewing.
