I started to blog mainly to improve my writing style, I have done online courses on writing fiction and so on and so forth. But it doesn’t help to only do the course, perfection comes with practice. I am sure some of you that have been part of my two year long journey will agree that I have developed and improved quite a bit.
I have been blessed with an artistic flair and it has been a lifelong dream of mine to make my art my career. But I had no idea how or in what way. It was only a few years ago that I decided I want to be a writer. I bought a book on improving my writing skills, which I still haven’t finished due to time constraints. But I was determined to write my first novel.
Easier said than done. There are days where I feel such an urge to write something, but when I sit down in front of my computer I will sit and stare at the blank screen. I believe they call it writer’s block. In the years that followed I started with background ideas, character sketches and eventually started. Then the major set-back! I managed to finish five chapters of my first novel, and then my laptop crashed. Being as bad with doing back-ups as I am, I lost everything. But I learned my lesson, now I keep at least 3 copies of everything, doesn’t matter how insignificant it may seem, I might just need it someday.
After this loss, I was deeply disheartened. I did not have the strength or motivation to start with a novel again. But still I had the urge to write. So I started blogging. It has been such a fulfilling journey. And the bonus is, I get feedback on what I publish, not to mention the people that share the love of writing I met along the way.
Another reason why I started blogging, I am an Insomniac. I can be deathly tired, but when the time comes to go to sleep, my mind will be racing and I will end up staring at the roof. A lot of the time, that is when I get out of bed and start writing something, clearing my head. Most of my ‘What is…?’ series was written in the dark early morning hours.
Sometimes, I write to spread an awareness about a certain topic. Other times I just write about whatever I can think of. Is that not part of the passion for words? To let your imagination roam freely? At least all these thoughts I pen down might be useful someday. Maybe one day, I will need something that I have blogged about previously for one of my books.
I have started several novels again, all still in the development stage, maybe I will finish all of them, maybe I will only finish one. Only time will tell. One thing I can tell you for sure. Although there are times where I can’t get to blogging as much as I want to, I will never stop.
I’m just learning to write … I hope to improve myself
The best advice I can give is, write, write, write and then some more. Practice makes perfect.
I love your honest style of writing! Great that you have many thoughts to share with people who will definitely be thankful to you. Readers can be inspired!!!
Aww thank you Natalya. I hope you are right
I am very confident in your talents and abilities. You don’t even need to be convinced about that. So, do it and I will read all your books!
Thank you so much Albert. That really means a lot to me
You are most welcome, Della.
I am hoping one of the books focuses on Llama’s wearing hats!
Doc! You are a genius!! Just imagine the brilliant children story that will be…
It would be greater than Where the Wild Things, and Lyle the Crocodile.
I will buy copies for future grandchildren!
AS long as you enjoy it that is the main thing.
That is true. Thanks for stopping by Carol
You are welcome Della.
It´s so cute admitting that you are doing it because you love it! It´s what matters most! Keep it up! 🙂
Hahaha. Thank you Elena. I most definitely will 😉
