Early September, 1983 Gloucester, Massachusetts
Kathryn Hollett’s family had a summer home in Annisquam. Through their backyard you could walk down to the ocean. In the later part of that summer Kathryn introduced me to sailing. I have always loved rides that involve a high-speed rush and having the wind push you definitely qualifies. One night we were out for a sail at sunset & storm clouds were gathering. The early evening sky was amazing with gray clouds swiftly rolling in over the water. In the distance we saw a flash of what would soon by coming our way. I remember joking that if we didn’t make it back the Gloucester Times would have headlines about the City Council Candidate & his campaign manager being mysteriously lost at sea. Fortunately we made it to land about ten minutes before the first roll of thunder.

I have never been sailing but was once asked to live on his sailboat with him as he serenaded me with his guitar in Baltimore… Sounds like an awesome adventure, Paul! Another great read!
Thank you Windy. Hopefully you’ll get the chance to sail before long. This past summer my son and I sailed on the Schooner Fame from Salem Harbor. It’s a great feeling
Hmmm… That sounds like a great idea to incorporate into my trip to Salem! Thank you, Paul! 🙂 Salem has been on my bucket list for YEARS!
Witches, pirates, sailing ships…yes Salem is definitely worth the trip…one of the most fun places in Massachusetts.
I’ve always dreamt of visiting for Samhain. Now that my children are all too old for trick or treating, it’s about that time! I didn’t realize there were pirates and sailing ships there as well. Impressive! 🙂
Looks like happy memories, love the photo.
Thanks for reading and commenting Carol 🙂
You are most welcome Paul.
