April 2018 Home Decor

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Today was a warm and sunny day, which would have been a perfect day to ride my huffy, but I wanted to do some errands. I decided to go to Grocery Outlet for my weekly groceries, and I actually found some interesting specialty items that are vegan. Some were vegetarian. Some of these specialty items are similar to the items I buy at TJ Maxx. I haven’t been to that store in a long time.

I returned home to continue my blogs about April 2018 Fashions. But this time, it will be the home décor fashions. I will now list 6 home decor styles that I noticed inside the April 2018 issue of California Style Magazine.

I added old snapshots for each description, but these snapshots don’t really fit the description because I couldn’t find a snapshot that fits each description.

#1 Artsy Decor

  • The Artsy Décor is all about avant garde, unconventional and contemporary home décor design. It is for freethinkers who like to express their truth. Such items might include a velvet chaise with rolled backrest with brass and casting details, vintage items, and one-of-a-kind artisanal décor. These furniture pieces are usually in a jewel-tone fabric, such as ruby, amethyst, garnet, onyx, emerald, sapphire and topaz. There also tends to be a mixture of design styles, which includes 20th century pieces, primitive pieces, traditional pieces, and classic pieces. It is about mixing the old and new in order to create your own personal style.
  • This snapshot was taken at one of the spring garden show events at South Coast Plaza. These garden furniture have colorful mosaic tile designs, and I think they would also look cute as kitchen furniture, patio furniture and balcony furniture.

#2 Do-It-Yourselfers Decor

  • Do-it-Yourselfers might include people who are really good at arts and crafts that they have taken their hobby a level higher to create their own décor. This might include finding an old junk with potential at a junkyard, garage sale, or thrift store, and renovating it to look really stylish and modern art pieces. It might also include making your own macramé pot holders, ceramic pottery, scented candles, and patchouli. It might also include hanging your own paintings and photography on your walls. Or, you might also go to IKEA to build your own furniture, but organize IKEA furniture in a different way than it was originally intended for.
  • This photo is another old snapshot that I took at one of the spring garden shows.
  • Enjoy your meals outdoors during springtime and summertime, whether in your backyard, on a balcony, or going to a park or beach for picnic meals.

#3 Alfresco Decor

  • Alfresco décor includes using outdoor-style furniture for indoors.  Such furniture includes bucket armchairs, tile side table, black metal chairs, and potting bench. I actually think this style is very charming and elegant, similar to French décor, in which I have already used some outdoor furniture as indoor props because I just like it as a décor piece. Other ideas might include a rustic garden pot, woven rough linen, beach towels and Mexican blankets, and placing succulent plants in earth objects, such as skulls, longhorns, deadwood, shells, and other found objects.
  • A scented candle might be all the decor you really need.
  • This snapshot is my coffee table with my items.

#4 Modern Homes

  • Modern homes are usually surrounded by large glass windows, which bring in bright sunlight as well as a beautiful panoramic view. It might also have solar paneling on the roof for solar energy. The décor is just as modern, but tends to be minimalist item for a clean, simple, and monochromatic.
  • Such homes or just rooms are on a wooden deck to give your home or room a coastal feel, especially if you live in the mountains or Midwest. Fill your walls with beach and coastal photographs and paintings as well as seashells and other beach props.

#5 Romance and Drama Decor

  • Romance & Drama décor involves dark jewel tones, fringe, theatrical drama, and layered mixture of texture, color, and print. Consider fringe piece in turmeric and plum tones; tall pendant light has a large diamond shape, which tends to make a statement as a room centerpiece; lime wash wall paint has a taupe-green-khaki-grayish tone; glass tumbler and water jug; emerald-colored velvet couch;  tile floor; art sculpture mirror looks more like modern art piece hanging on the wall rather than a mirror; bronze-colored textile—Nuru—as a satin shine; large brass side table; velvet pillow; maroon, wine or burgundy wallpaper  has a detailed design.
  • This snapshot reminds of vampire movies. I guess it is all the candles and drapery give the illusion of drama and romance from the dark side.

#6 Modern Beach House

  • Modern Beach house includes lots of white, light-colored wood, pale neutral shades, and geometric shapes. Imagine this:  a round white globe light hangs from the ceiling; teak chaise, beacon daybed, bowen rug, handwoven throw, large oval platter, club chair, wooden salad serving set, slide coffee table, and vanity mirror; blue and white fabric—called Sky—adds a hint of color to the overall pale neutral décor.
  • Maybe the only decor you really need or want are pretty flowers and cute pets.
  • This snapshot is just my living room with old decor. I still used these items, but I placed them elsewhere to give my rooms different looks, for a change.
