Sir Arthur Conan Doyle remarked”Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who defended themselves for fifty years against all the power of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world.
Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots who gave up home and fortune and left their country forever at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile, unconquerable races ever seen upon earth. Take this formidable people and train them for seven generations in constant warfare against savage men and ferocious beasts, in circumstances under which no weakling could survive, place them so that they acquire exceptional skill with weapons and in horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to the tactics of the huntsman, the marksman, and the rider.
Then, finally, put a finer temper upon their military qualities by a dour fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming patriotism. Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual, and you have the modern Boer – the most formidable antagonist who ever crossed the path of Imperial Britain.
Britain’s military history has largely consisted in our conflicts with France, but Napoleon and all his veterans have never treated us so roughly as these hard-bitten farmers with their ancient theology and their inconveniently modern rifles.
THE SAME WEAPONS GERMANY SENT THE BOERS, NAMELY, THE 7millimeter MAUSER RIFLE, IN THE VIDEO ABOVE.
Beautiful photos i love it would love to purchased it.
Oh, Jasmine, your choice of weapon is superb. Alas, they are as scarce as “hens-teeth”. Probably not so expensive but hard to find. If you are serious about buying one, the American Rifleman may be able to help, here is the link: https://www.americanrifleman.org
You have a treasure with this old rifle it seems.
The 7mm German Mauser in the hands of my ancestors was a formidable combination, their slogan was, “In the Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the Mauser we trust.”
“War is never a solution even if its fruits provide a mechanized pivotal point to the conflict”.~ Tranquilpen©2008
The interesting reality of old guns. In the US there is a huge market for guns that are older.
The above video by the American Rifleman of the NRA, fittingly embellish the German 7mm. Mauser is almost as legendary the .44cal Winchester carbine, lever-action.
The winchester – the gun that won the west!
Was this used in II world war ?
Hello Witty Feeds, no my friend, they were used before 1940, which is when WW II took place. These rifles were used in a war between Britain and a small group of people called Afrikaner Boers, (White Farmers) that was being fought in South-Africa in 1895 through 1902.
Thank you for detail information, happy to know about this gum.
