Woodfield Mall is one of the largest malls in the United States of America. The iconic mall is located in Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago. The mall has been opened for 48 years and has never been the scene of a major accident. That all changed Friday afternoon when a man who was disoriented drove his SUV through the mall.
The man rammed his Chevy Trailblazer through the mall doors at the Sears entrance. Then, he careened through the store past the mall entrance. After that, he began to knock over kiosks and displays throughout the mall. Fortunately, he was arrested before anyone was injured.
A bit chaotic here.
We had an incident not far away from where I live where a gang of people drive through the glass doors of the Royal Oak shopping mall and tried to rob the jewellery store, but most of the valuable stuff was stacked away.
It was done at 2 AM at night and one security guy had to go to hospital
This was a while ago a year ago I think
attempted homicide / conspiracy to commit, felony property damage, reckless endangerment, grand theft auto… am I missing anything?
I think that you covered everything. You must be Law & Order’s #1 fan. As always, I appreciate your attention to detail.
feels like I left something out. the ADA loves to just bury you with charges, so you’ll freak out and take a deal. amusingly enough, I don’t watch TV so I’ve never seen Law & Order…
I want to know if that was an accident or a deliberate act of the driver.
The driver’s name nor the motive has been released as of yet. The driver is currently under mental evaluation at the hospital.
Glad to hear no one was injured and hope the driver is okay too
It’s amazing that nobody was hurt. The driver was sent to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Watching too many movies maybe? Chicago? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIdGxR-aU6o
Is there a connection?
It’s possible. The car was possibly stolen as well.
The ‘Blues Brothers’ mall was the former Dixie Square Shopping Center in Harvey, IL; a south-suburb of Chicago. That was 1980. I wonder if the guy was disoriented or he decided to do a Blues Brothers. Did he have dark glasses on? That would be telling.
They still haven’t released the name of the driver because they have sent him directly to a mental institution. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/9/22/20878124/suv-woodfield-mall-driver-amita-behavioral-mental-health-schaumburg
Thanks for that link man. The “medical episode” is interesting and unusual. Holy cow!
