Charcoal is a fun and fast medium to practice drawing children’s faces. I gave myself this 100-day challenge of drawing one child a day for 100 days to see if I could improve my technique and skill. I thought I was up the challenge and that indeed, it would be a piece of cake. I was wrong. First I looked for videos I could draw from with children in action, singing, dancing, looking around, playing. This was a mistake for the first few drawings. Extreme angles are very difficult. Children’s faces are not adult faces. If you make the neck too long or the shadows too harsh it ages the face and the child looks older than he or she is. Plus keeping proportions correct is always a challenge. Here I have day 17 through 22.
