This story is kind of bittersweet since two Black bear cubs were wandering in a road in Franklin County Virginia last week after their mom was killed in an auto accident on Thursday evening.
The most likely scenario was the driver who killed the mother bear was likely an accident since Black bears are hard to see on a dark road.
Virginia State Trooper DH Cepelink on his patrol the next day when he saw the Black Bear Cubs on the road. Cepelink who insisted that he just was “doing his job” did the honorable thing to pick up the two cubs who will never see their mother again to take the two black bear cubs to a Wildlife Center Of Virginia which is located in Waynesboro Virginia to be attended for the injuries they may have suffered after the death of their mother.
The two Black cub bears will be living out the rest of their lives with some new cubs in the Wildlife Center thanks to the actions of Trooper DH Cepelink who showed compassion to rescue the two cubs from a possible horrible fate wandering on the roads in Franklin County.
I saw this story a few days ago and thought it was really neat.
The police officer is a hero for helping the orphaned cubs find a new home after their mom died.
Too bad about their Mom but thank goodness the babies will survive.
It is a shame that the mama bear died. However the trooper did the right thing by taking the cubs to a animal shelter so they can carry out the rest of their lives.
Lovely photo of these bears. Great story and rescue.
My pleasure to share these images of the cubs and the state trooper.
That was a great thing to do and will make life so much better for those 2 little guys
The state trooper did a wonderful thing finding a home for the two orphaned cubs.
These orphans will be raised with much love. And hope to later go to their place the forest. Thank you for sharing this post
My pleasure to share these wonderful stories the national media does not have on the front page of the news broadcasts.
They are so cute, I am glad that they are in good hands.
Me too since it shows that state troopers are not all monsters who beat up people just for fun.
I certainly hope that first the bear cubs are doing OK and second that the Officer gets a medal for “only doing his job”. He actually went above and beyond the call of duty by bringing two small bear cubs to a Wildlife Center. Thank you for posting this amazing story.
My pleasure HistoryGal to share this story that came from some of the good news sites.
Noble actions that will not be in vain.
That is true Albert since the trooper will be rewarded down the line for his wonderful duty.
very humane work, thank you for sharing
You are welcome Branka. Police officers do have hearts of gold.
Two orphaned cubs. So glad they got a new home.
Me too RasmaSandra since the Virginia State Trooper was just “doing his job” to find two orphaned cubs a new home.
