Skeleton on the Fencepost

One of our favorite things to do growing up was taking a drive up the Blacktail. It was the name of a creek and a small mountain range. It was fairly close to home and there was a lot of wildlife to see if you paid attention and knew where to look.

On one of the fence posts there was a skeleton of some strange fish that used to scare me. I had never seen anything like it and it always bothered me. While wondering around on line and doing some research I was surprised to find information about the fish skeleton that had bothered me for yours.

It is a Pallid sturgeon. It is an ancient fish that dates back to the age of the dinosaurs. Their long snout is used to scrape the bottom of the Missouri and Mississippi River to find food, which consists of small fish and immature aquatic insects.

It was interesting to learn what it was after so many years.
