The Wayside Waifs animal shelter had a “Adoptathon” event in Kansas City Missouri on the weekend of April 12-13 where all of the dogs that were placed for adoption found families who could give them a loving home for life.
However one two year old mixed male dog named “Kenny” who is pictured was the only dog that was not adopted on the weekend of the adoption event held by Wayside Waifs.
I do not know if Wayside Waifs has a policy to put to sleep homeless dogs that do not get adopted by a loving person or family that needs the love of a dog like Kenny.
Thanks to the power of social media, Wayside Waifs were able to sound the alarm that Kenny was available to be adopted by a loving family who needed his services.
The good news is that after the news appeared on social media that Kenny was available for adoption, a loving family in the Kansas City area after having a meeting with the Wayside Waifs officials, were able to adopt Kenny to join them in a loving home.
In the words of the Vanessa l. Williams song title “Saving The Best For Last” is Kenny’s theme song.
How lovely that this dog got a loving home, great.
It is a nice heartwarming story to see that a dog that was on the verge of being put down, finds a happy home at last.
I limit my use on them as well.
She has stated that she is looking for a small dog instead of a huge dog like the previous dog we had. I am hoping she finds another dog like Jubilee who was a small dog.
You have some very good points there dealing with service dogs.
Kenny was lucky, not all dogs are
The majority of dogs that stay in animal shelters are usually put down if no one wants them after a long period of time. It is a shame.
Great news for Kenny, and a wonderful story that shows that social media can be used in a good way too.
Despite the media crying about the negative points about the effects of social media. in my view social media has a positive effect on society. I just ignore the trolls.
That’s a great outlook and I agree with you! It’s just a tool and it depends on people how to use it.
What I learned about social media is not to say negative things to actors who make super hero movies because their egos find my words “Overrated” and “stink” offensive.
congrats, you lucky dog
Kenny was saved from being put down thanks to social media.
I am glad that social media is good for something besides racism
That is true since I am up to the hilt with the whining persons on some social media sites.
I am pretty much staying away from it
So good to read this happy ending! The photo brought a smile.
It is my extreme pleasure to share stories with happy endings.
What an adorable puppy! ?
It’s unbelievable he wasn’t adopted by the end of the adoption event, but thankfully social media found him a family at last. ? It’s like an online dating story, perhaps they didn’t know there was an event, but they could find their soulmate on the internet. ?
Social media has its good ways of getting the message out to the people that a pet that needed to be adopted came true.
It was a happy ending. Reading this, I even thought, sometimes they seem to be luckier than millions of people who no one can help.
Kenny was a lucky dog that someone found out that he was available to be adopted as the last dog in the pound.
And that’s why I say that Kenny is very lucky.
That is one reason when my sister goes to look for a dog to take up the space of her late dog Poochie who was a mixed Black Lab and Rottweiler, she will get it from a dog breeder since it breaks her heart to go to a dog pound and adopt one dog from a bunch of them.
That way she has more choices.
Sometimes these stories are sad, this one is very happy!
I agree with you that are many dogs that are put to sleep when their time at an animal shelter expires. Kenny was one of the lucky dogs.
I work with Lab Rescue of Maryland. they go to kill shelters and pull the Labradors out. There are fewer and fewer kill shelters every day!
I am happy to know that the kill shelters are fading out since dogs are useful to reform criminals into society and assist person who need the love of a service dog.
There is another issue that you’ve alluded to, that of animals helping and caring for humans. We need more service dogs! But, we also need tighter rules around getting that service dog vest.
