A New York City man rescues a dog that was in the East River

I have blogged quite a few rescue stories on this site that involve animals. However this rescue in my opinion eats the cake.

Gabe Castellanos was celebrating his birthday in New York City near the East River when he heard the pleas from someone that her pet dog Harper was having  a hard time staying afloat in the river.

The mystery is how did Harper get into the East River? Was he pushed by a stranger or did the dog jump into the river chasing either a rubber ball or a stick?

The reason that Gabe is being called a hero is that he could have made an excuse that he was celebrating his birthday and since Harper was not his dog, why risk his life and jump into the river to rescue Harper from drowning since dogs only have so much stamina to stay afloat in a body of water.

Gabe decided to take the chance of jumping into the East River to rescue Harper even though the dog did not like the presence of a stranger attempting to rescue her

The good news is that Gabe despite getting bit in the face and hand by Harper, he was able to bring Harper to safety and reunite with his owner Erin O’Donnell who was grateful beyond words that Gabe took time off from his birthday to rescue her pet.

I am sure that Gabe’s rescue of the female dog named Harper will be one of his greatest days of his lifetime.
