Frida who is a seven year old Labrador Retriever and her handler Israel Arauz who is a member of the Mexican Marines had a statue of them erected at the Ecological Park In Pubela City Mexico on Thursday at a ceremony to say thank you to the dog and her owner for their work in rescuing 12 people who were trapped underneath the rubble of the infamous 7.1 Earthquake that struck Mexico City on September 19, 2017.

Even though 400 citizens lost their lives in the Mexican capital due to the earthquake and aftershocks, Frida and her handler were able to locate at least 12 people who were trapped underneath the rubble hours and days after the earthquake.

Freda who is a rescue dog has saved at least 52 people in natural disasters over her career as a dog that uses her sense of smell to locate people who are trapped underneath the rubble of buildings that collapsed as a result of an earthquake.

Statues are usually erected after sports stars and people in the political arena around the world. It is rare for a dog to have a statue erected in their honor as well as their handler as a way of saying “Thank you” for their service of rescuing lives after the events of a natural disaster.

Frida is basic on duty for the time being until Father Time will have Frida retired from the military so she can live the rest of live in retirement in a few years.

If anything I have learned about natural disasters. Heroes come out of the woodwork to perform their duty to assist people who need their help after a tragic event happens around the world.

Israel Arauz who is the handler of Frida is a member of the Mexican Marines who has also had his image alongside his partner Frida in a statue in Puebla City Mexico.

These kinds of stories are not likely to make the cut of the evening news since bad news sells instead of good news stories that are inspirational by nature.
