Designing Simplicity ~ Meal Prepping

If you read this you know that we are taking more control of out life to create simplicity. Our next big step is to establish meal prepping. If you are not familiar with meal prepping it is about cooking or putting together the main meals for the week so that you can pop them in the oven or slow cooker and forget it. This is something we do occasionally. Our goal now is to make it happen for three months consistently and see if helps our monetary budget, healthy meals, and wise use of time. It may also get us out of some food ruts and make us think about trying new things.

Today is our shopping day. Tomorrow is our prep day.  Then we will see how the week goes. Of course this will be a journey and I am certain we will make adjustments and mistakes along the way and we are committed.

I think this would be fun to see what new ideas to share, what we are trying and how we like it. I could be way off base. We’ll see how it goes. I will be making the purchases for those meals.

  1. It’s really good to simplify our life. I am learning about it, though I am still far away from where I want to be. I haven’t try this method before, as freezer meals are not my family’s favorite and I still prefer eating almost every meal fresh if possible. I try to cut the vegetables and store in the fridge, then cook the dishes for every meal. Pre-cutting the vegetables helps to save a little bit of time, though I think it would be great if we can just cook the food, store in the freezer and not to worry it for the whole week. 🙂

  2. I live alone and just have to worry about food for myself and my cat Sid. Sid, of course, is not a problem open a can or give him some of my food and he is a happy camper. I am a moody person so if I get busy on the PC I need something I can just throw together or heat up. To give myself some variety with food I do things like open a can of ravioli, put the ravioli in a small baking dish, add some extra sauce, and top with cheese and bake for 20 minutes. Then I know I will eat it other times it is maybe a tuna fish sandwich.

  3. I haven’t tried it yet. Thank you for the idea. I’ll see if it would fit my situation in the coming days. I am planning to go back to school and will be staying in a place where I currently work. This might be a good option to consider.
