Unlikey Hero

I am not certain why I am so fascinated with this writer. She had all sorts of issues. She drank too much (a confirmed alcoholic). She attempted to kill herself. She was often sarcastic and critical. She was very famous in her time and not necessarily for popular and good things.  Still I am drawn to her writing, her quotes and her life.  My family finds it oddly disturbing. I guess I see the humor. Perhaps I understand the sarcasm.  Maybe, just maybe, we would have been friends.

Truth

We find what we are searching for.

  1. If I want wit and humor to inspire me, I would not pick a book of her joyless style and acerbity of her writings. But I’m still curious to see that she had seen glimpses of hope and joy during her last few days before her tragic death.

  2. Before I put in my 2 cents comment, I did have quite a read of Dorothy Parker’s book to see her side of her world and perspective. She gained popularity and much-coveted accolade in professional literary journalism.

This ‘Unlikely Hero’, Mrs. Dorothy Parker (from your article) was/is deservedly and famously much appreciated and loved. I’d probably would have, as well, if I have learned a bit more about her.

    Thank you.

Something to think about.

Has it ever crossed your mind?

  1. Being a Jew, I wonder if she ever thought about her Hebrew ancestor Abraham whom God gave abundant wealth and riches, and generational covenant: “I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”

    I believe she did.
