This moth was hanging out on the screen room, on the outside. My cat the Dude found him of course. He was pretty high up so he couldn’t reach him and he was on the outside of the screen. Not much happens around here that I am not alerted to by one of the cats. Funny you think you have to have a dog to be alerted, not always. Sure if you need the bark to mainly scare off what they are barking at. But I am enjoying my two cats. I miss my dogs from the past especially a cocker spaniel I had for 14 years. Now… back to the moth. All I could find out is he is pretty common especially this time of year and the scientific information… I believe this is what he is..
Melanolophia signataria, the signate melanolophia, is a moth of the family Geometridae. It is found from Nova Scotia to Florida, west to Saskatatchewan and East Texas. The wingspan is 30–35 mm. The larvae feed on the leaves of a wide variety of trees, including alder, elm, birch, fir, larch, maple, oak, poplar and spruce.
So now you know as much as I do. It was a cool looking moth, the shape and details. It was challenging to capture all the beauty but I darkened the background to try to spotlight his beauty.

We seldom see moth in our house. I don’t know why.
This one was outside my screen room. I don’t get them inside either. I keep doors and windows closed.
When I was a kid, I could always see moth, attracting to the petroleum or gas lamp we had.
I just love it.. beautiful, i have a picture of this in close up.

Yes they do mimic the bark well.
in the right woods, they are masters of disguise, in the wrong ones they’re all you can eat…
Yes and so it is on nature. They are all trying to survive.

They are not missing from us either – is it an insect that attacks assholes in cabinets? Is that right?
