The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak – Book review

Writing a book review is an extremely difficult task. Writing a good review, is even harder, since each book touches the heart of the reader in different ways. So I will just try to pass on the part of the feelings that followed me as I read it and hopefully I will be convincing enough, because I think this extraordinary book should become part of the heart of each reader who read this book.

First of all I want to say: this is a book for everyone. Whether your heart has received the expected response to the desired love, whether you are still looking for it; Whether you are a believer or an infidel, a recipient, a provider, or indifferently observe the world around you – the message is for everyone. It should only be recognized and implemented.

“The Forty Rules of Love” is a novel about which is extremely difficult to write. Light as a feather, and yet full of emotions, through the mouth of the wandering dervish, he tries to teach us about the ways of seeking for love, truth and God, and through the lives of the characters who are telling stories he tries to tell us how there is a whirlwind of human destinies and ways. Which one we choose, it is up to us.

While reading this novel, I learned that life’s happiness does not lie in high goals and material pleasures, but in the little things. We can not blame others for the failures and the circumstances surrounding us, but should accept as a precious experience in which we will build better versions of ourselves.

I have also learned that even before the need for forgiveness is at all necessary, it is necessary to learn how to give yourself unconditionally. Elif Shafak wrote a story of love and friendship that teaches us that every man somewhere in the universe has his own mirrored projection. When we find it, we have to really try to keep and cherish it because, finding your soul mate, means finding part of yourself.

Also, this book teaches how there is no difference between people, how to avoid all divisions and prejudices, in order to achieve inner peace. When a man is satisfied with himself, he can live peacefully with others. If you are the same person before and after reading this book, it means that you have not read it carefully enough.
