It is time to start thinking about gardening with spring around thecorner. I went to an event called SeedySaturday which is held each year around this time. The event provides a lot of tips about gardening, seed sales, workshops and seed exchange. Everyone brings some of their excess seeds and take some. I always have a lot of seeds that I save from the garden each year so I took several packets. It was a truly fun event in the cold of winter.

That sounds like a fun event to go to! We don’t have any seed exchanges around here that I know of. Perhaps we could start something here via mailing? Anyone game?
Thank you. The seed exchanges are fun.
How encouraging to be in a like-mind group of love of gardening and growing from seeds. I collect and store my own seeds. But no one to share them with except the birds and the soil. 😀
I collect from the garden and purchase seeds as well as the ones I get through exchanges. As a result I have an over abundance of seeds which I am always happy to get rid of.
In our country, we do not have the ability to change seeds. We need to buy seeds in stores.
It really helps when you have an excess of seeds of one type and you can exchange them for ones you don’t have. This seed exchange just started in the last 5 years so you may have one in your country in time.
we don’t have seed exchanges where we are now, but we did where we used to live a little south of us now (both in Maryland) they are a lot of fun!!! sadly we aren’t allowed a visible garden in our neighborhood.
No garden allowed? I couldn’t live there. Actually when I moved into my first house I noticed there were no gardens just lawns. I started a garden and many followed.
we live in an area that has community gardens, no gardens in the housing areas. We have a deer problem, gardens attract deer!
We live in a forested area so deer are common around here. We have learnt to plant things they don’t like in the front. No problem in the back yard as it is fenced.
our deer issue is that to get to the gardens in the neighborhoods they have to cross busy roads.
lots of damaged cars. Lots of dead deer.
Sounds like a great idea, but I am not sure there are such events here.
This one just started a few years ago here. Some of the libraries also have seed exchange
I used to be on Fb groups which had seed , plant and cutting exchange. It was fun and a cheap way to get a wide variety of plants.
I agree and it is an important way to ensure many plant species are preserved.
This seed exchange is a good idea. We do not have it here.
It is great and provides a nice outlet for sharing and getting new ideas.
