Exactly five years ago this was the rage here , pink poinsettias. That year it was pretty expensive and I decided to wait another season to buy them. The next year too it wasn’t too cheap yet I decided to get myself a small plant for in October when it is not so expensive. It was only five inches tall then, and just a single stem.
Now it has become tally and i have taken many cutting from this one and given it to friends. These bracts look very different from the red poinsettias. I have seen red poinsettias in the wild look much different from the cultivated one sold in the market.
These have 20-30 colored bracts arranged in a neat circle. with two or three leaf bracts sticking out in the middle. I have wanted to graft my yellow poinsettias to the wild red ones, but Somehow I have never got around to doing it. This year after Christmas I should try some of these tricks to see what will become of them. I don’t even know for sure if they can be grafted because of their hollow stems. But it could be worth a try.

I really like it only you get only red in our store
Hmm we get a whole lot of colors here.
They probably only have red now because we also call her a Christmas star and this one is supposed to be red, dear Dawn …. maybe I don’t know
Thee are varieties of red and these special cultivars which cost a bomb. Christmas star is a nice name for poinsettia.
I like it too, my dear friend
Even in that color, the poinsettia is gorgeous. I would definitely buy it, but in our stores they only have this plant in red.
I like it very much, in fact I like it a bit more than the red. Maybe its just the novelty of it.
Here I have only seen red poinsettias, pink ones are also beautiful.
These are really cultivars , I am surprised that you don’t have these there. You have a lot of lovely plants there.
They are gorgeous! I love everything pink, they would go great with my decorations.
I have only had red ones in flowerpots and they usually don’t last long after the holidays. The roots are in some kind of tube, so the plant grows fast, and they require a lot of watering. I am planning to try removing that tube and transferring the plant to a normal flowerpot after the holidays if it survives until then.
Hmm.. roots in tubes, I wonder why? No wonder these plants don’t last long. We get them here planted like any normal plants. These plants do need a bit of watering. They are very finicky and drop immediately.
I think that when the roots have so little space, the plant grows above the ground faster and gets bigger.
Hmm .. I am not sure about that..but maybe you are right. A nice experiment to try though.
That is a beautiful pink. It is nice that you give away cuttings A ardent gardener does that. “Increase multiply and fill the earth”!!
My friends always keep asking me for cutting. I am only happy to give away those cutting or rooted cuttings as I need to keep the plants in shape.
Dawn, this is beautiful. First, I think you kindness (sharing cuttings with friends) is awesome! Your skill keeping this plant not only alive but flourishing, is commendable!
Thank you Doc. The plant flourishing may also be due to our tropical kind of climate , to be honest I neglected my red poinsettias and they are dead now. I somehow didn’t see the white flies under the leaves. I need to get myself a new plant now, that is where sharing with friends comes in handy, they are always ready to give you a cutting 😀 . I may not really be all that kind LOL
it is all about cooperating that is still a kindness!
I loan cables and tools to my neighbor all the time. He does the same, it works perfectly!
It really does. another reason to do so is when you pass on your cuttings or plants to your neighbors your neighborhood will be beautiful. 😀
ROFL!
that made me laugh, good one!!!!
