In tropical countries particularly in Asia, the coconut farm is the traditional livelihood of the rural folks. The main benefit from coconut is for the food. The grated coconut and the coconut milk are the most popular although the young coconut is also good to eat. Another edible benefit is the bud of the coconut tree called Ubod which is cooked as a vegetable and best for the spring roll.
For the grated coconut, it is the main flavoring ingredient of our native foods like the rice cake and other delicacy snacks. Old folks say that they wouldn’t have survived the 2nd world war without the coconut that gave their food some flavor to make it palatable.
