Although the Bible refers to everyone who is a faithful Christian as saints, the Roman Catholic Church also uses the term as a title for someone who died after living an exemplary life which serves as an example for the saints who are still alive. (It is my understanding that Orthodox Catholics also have saints but I don’t know how it works with them.)
