It wasn’t the typical day at the track and it was filled with ups and downs. Let’s talk about the ups first! The Indian relays were amazing and no one was hurt. Wapati Rose ran her first race and she did a great job. We are excited to watch her improve with more races. Our friends were there and of course, my husband made banana bread and surprised them with the treats. My brother came with his stepdaughter and family and seemed to kind of enjoy the day.
The not so good. The dang tribe forgot to bring the medicine drums and so all they could do is sing. (At least they sang.) A jockey ran a horse too hard and it dropped from exhaustion. The horse and jokey were both out cold and it was very tense. I immediately dropped to my knees and began to pray. The jockey and horse are physically okay – the jockey got fined.
Today is the last day. There are many of our friends we won’t see until next summer. Some of them probably won’t make it through to summer. I guess the key is to be grateful every day for whatever we can find to be grateful for.

Well I volunteered to drive 200 miles one way to get the drums there and back to their home next year. (Yes, I am crazy.)
or you like drums! there is something about the drum that makes some events better.
So happy you were able to visit with your friends.
It was nice. I wish it could happen more often.
