I got that experience when innocent me was holidaying in the US. My friend a recent resident in the US who had settled there from India hushed me down when I loudly told her I wanted to buy prunes. We had just got down her car and were walking towards a Mall.
I love prunes and little did I know then that Americans eat them when they get constipated. So the conversation that includes the word prune is totally banned in the US is what my newly Americanised friend told me
I obeyed and never uttered that word until I returned to India.

Do you think prunes is a bad word?

Yes

No

We also call them plums, dear friend … I don’t know what’s wrong with that
Dried plums are called prunes which are good for constipation (lol)
I love prune, Its really strange how each culture reacts to somethings.
Her warning is still so vivid in my memory (lol)
I love plums and understand that each country has its own peculiarities.
Wondered what was it that prunes get such a deal (lol)
There are so many manners that we don’t know about in other cultures. I did not even know beforehand that “Hahaha” or “Hehehe ” is not good to write because for some people it is negative while it is fine in my country.
It is fine here as well and so go ahead and laugh at my comments Hahaha
In time I will laugh at your post, or mine.
I was not knowing this. I don’t see a problem but different places have different practice.
You are right about that. I found it odd though
